ESU, Washburn Basketball Drew Big Numbers


May 24, 2007-Emporia State basketball fans again proved they are some of the best in the country as both the Hornet and Lady Hornet basketball teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation in attendance. It is the fifth straight year both teams have been ranked in the top 25 nationally.
The Lady Hornets were second in the nation in attendance, averaging 2,241 fans per game. ESU had ten games with over 2,000 fans including a season high 4,642 for their nationally televised win over Washburn on Feb. 17 in White Auditorium. The Lady Hornets would rank 48th among NCAA Division I schools. It marked the tenth straight year ESU has been ranked in the top six nationally. Emporia State and North Dakota are the only two schools that have ranked in the top six every year over the last ten years.
The Hornets were ranked 13th for the second straight year with an average of 2,194 fans per game. The men played in front of 2,000 fans in White Auditorium on seven occassions with a season high 4,056 for their Feb. 17 win over Washburn. ESU outdrew 132 NCAA Division I schools, including five teams that made the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
More people saw MIAA games than any other NCAA Division II conference in the nation. As a conference, the MIAA drew 268,946 fans for 142 men's games and 192,008 for 140 women's games. A total of 460,954 fans watched MIAA men's and women's home basketball games during the 2006-07 season.
