Washburn Falls to 8th In Golf Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Washburn Ichabod golf team is in eighth place
at the halfway point of the 45th annual NCAA Division II National
Championships at the Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Mich. The
Ichabods were 22-over Tuesday posting a team score of 306. The
Ichabods trail leader Barry University by 16 strokes entering the
third round of the four round championships. The Ichabods are only 11
shots behind the second place Florida Southern squad. The Ichabods
will tee off at 12:50 p.m. Thursday afternoon. For live third round

For the second straight day, John Robbins led the Ichabods after
shooting a 3-over 74 putting him at 3-over for the tournament. Robbins
is in tie for sixth place overall. Robbins was 3-over after his first
nine holes as the Ichabods started their round on the 10th hole.
Robbins finished the backside of his round even par after scoring
three birdies erasing out a bogey and a double bogey.

Matt Lazzo is in a tie for 48th place after recording a 5-over 76 for
his second round and 11-over for the first two rounds. Lazzo was 2-
over in the first nine holes of the day and finished up with a 3-over
score on the backside.

Taylor Dunham improved on his opening round 80 to shoot a 6-over 77
placing him in a tie for 79th for the championships. Dunham was 3-over
on each side en route to his 77.

Matt Ewald started out his second round with six straight pars before
suffering a double bogey on 16 and a triple bogey on the 17th hole
making the turn at 5-over. On the backside of his round, Ewald
recorded a birdie at the par 5 No. 4 hole, but suffered a double bogey
on the par 3 seventh and bogey on the ninth hole finishing his round 8-
over and 13-over for the tournament placing him in a tie for 63rd
overall.

Ryan Deutsch finished the second round with a 9-over 80 putting him in
10-over for the tournament placing him in a tie for 42nd overall.
Deutsch shot a 1-over 71 in the opening round. Deutsch was 4-over the
turn, but finished his final five holes of the day 5-over.

The Ichabods were in seventh place after two rounds during the 2005
championships when the finished a school-best 10th overall.
