Crumbliss: Hornets Hero

WARRENSBURG, MO. May 19, 2007-- The Emporia State baseball team put some excitement in the air in Warrensburg with a come from behind 8-7 victory over Minnesota State-Mankato. The Hornets trailed 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth inning after clawing back from an early 6-0 deficit. In the ninth with one out Matt Marasco doubled and was followed by a Billy Sharp walk before Nick Wolfe singled through the left side to get the Hornets to within one. Andy Anderson then came up and singled to load the bases and give ESU a chance. After Chris Evans was robbed of a single by a nice play at second base Conner Crumbliss worked a 3-2 count before driving the ball into right center a just making it past the outstretched arm of the center fielder to drive in the winning run. Wolfe was four for five in the ball game with three runs driven in and Crumbliss went two for six and also drove in three. The Hornets will now play Central Missouri in roughly 30 minutes for a chance to advance to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. game.
