Manns To Train With Junior National Team

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore volleyball player Kaylee Manns has been named to the 24-player roster for the 2007 U.S. Women’s Junior National Training Team, which will train May 18-20, in Austin, Texas. Within a week after the training session, the roster will be cut in half to 12 players who will represent the U.S. at the FIVB Under-20 World Championships held July 19-27, in Suphanburi, Thailand.

"This is a really great honor for Kaylee," said ISU head coach Christy Johnson. "Getting invited back for the Junior National Team tryouts means USA Volleyball feels she is among the best setters in the country in her age group. I thought Kaylee set very well for us this spring and I am confident she will bring this level of play to the tryouts this summer."

Manns, a native of Topeka, Kan., and one of six setters selected to participate, broke the single-season school-record with 1,433 assists last season while helping Iowa State earn its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1995. With Manns directing the Cyclones’ offensive attack, the team’s hitting percentage improved to .230. ISU hit .198 in 2005. Her 12.91 assists per game was fourth in the Big 12 and 31st in the nation.

Defensively, Manns averaged 3.23 digs and posted 19 double-doubles on the season.

Earlier this spring, Manns was selected to participate in the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball A2 Program. Training for the A2 squad will be held in the days following the Junior National Training session in Austin. Players from the A2 Program will then compete in the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships May 26-June 2, in Austin, Texas.
