WARRENSBURG, MO. May 17, 2007-- The Emporia State baseball team knocked of Wayne State 6-2 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Central Regional in Warrensburg, Mo. The Hornets scored two in the first inning as Mark McBratney singled and then later scored on a double play. Nick Wolfe hit a solo shot to start the second inning that would prove to be the game winner. The two teams settled down before Wayne State got single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning.
The Hornets then added three runs in the top of the sixth as Conner Crumbliss drove in two runs on a double and then scored on Mark McBratney's single to left center field. On the hill Trent Lare went all nine innings for the first time this season allowing only seven hits and scattering two runs as he threw 131 pitches in the outing.
The Hornets will now await the winner of tonight's game between Winona State and Central Missouri, to see who their opponent will be in tommorow's 7:00 p.m. game.
