KANSAS CITY, MO (May 16, 2007) – Royals Wives will be hosting the 25th Annual Royals Wives Food Drive to benefit Harvesters – The Community Food Network of Kansas City on Friday, May 25 prior to the club’s series opener against the Seattle Mariners. Royals Wives will be collecting “kid-friendly” non-perishable food items and cash donations at Gates A and B of Kauffman Stadium from 5-7:30 p.m. Suggested items for donation include peanut butter and canned soups, pastas, fruits and vegetables. Fans should refrain from bringing glass containers. This year, Brooke Buck, the wife of Royals catcher John Buck, Julie Gobble, the wife of Royals pitcher Jimmy Gobble, and Shara Sweeney, the wife of five-time Royals All-Star Mike Sweeney, are chairing the event. Former Royals pitcher Dan Quisenberry and his wife, Janie Quisenberry Stone, started the Royals Wives Food Drive in 1983. In conjunction with the food drive, Royals Wives will hold a premier silent auction during the Royals- Cleveland game on Thursday, May 24 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. behind sections 101 and 102 at Kauffman Stadium. The auction will feature one-of-a-kind memorabilia. Fans can also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win specific autographed items. Proceeds from this event will also benefit Harvesters. Harvesters, Kansas City’s only food bank, has been working to eliminate hunger in the Kansas City metropolitan area since 1979. A vital resource for the city, Harvesters can provide five meals with every $1 donation it receives.
