May 12, 2007--The Emporia State baseball team advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in the last five years with an 8-1 win over Northwest Missouri State on Saturday night.
Brett Brandon gave up one run on seven hits with three strike outs over seven innings for the Hornets. Conner Crumbliss was one for two with three walkds and scored three runs as ESU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the first. The first six batters reached base in the top of the first with Billy Sharp delivering a two RBI single up the middle to cap the scoring.
Earlier in the day ESU gave up eight runs in the sixth inning of a 16-6 loss to Central Missouri in the winners bracket championship game.
The Hornets and Mules will meet in the MIAA Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in the last five years. First pitch Sunday at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field is set for 1 p.m. with the if necessary game scheduled for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
