DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) _ Clint Bowyer has won the pole for
Saturday's Dodge Avenger 500 at Darlington Raceway. He earned the
pole with a speed of 164-point-987 miles per hour. The win also
guarantees him a spot in next winter's Bud Shootout at Daytona
International Speedway. The pole is the first of his Nextel career.
Dale Earnhardt, Junior, who announced yesterday that he's
leaving the Dale Earnhardt, Incorporated racing team, was given a
big ovation from the fans. He qualified 21st.
