KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Kansas City Royals cut relief
pitcher Todd Wellemeyer and sent starter Brian Bannister to the
minors.
Wellemeyer was designated for assignment after pitching poorly
in a 17-to-3 loss to Oakland. He gave up five runs and seven hits,
including two homers, in two and two-thirds innings.
Wellemeyer was 0-and-1 with a ten-point-34 E-R-A in 12 games.
The Royals bought the contract of right-higher Jason Standridge
from Triple-A Omaha to replace Wellemeyer. Standridge was 0-and-1
with a nine-point-45 E-R-A in three relief appearances last month
with Kansas City.
Before the game, the Royals optioned Bannister to Omaha and
activated Luke Hudson, who started against Oakland today. Hudson
took the loss, giving up five runs in two-plus innings.
