Hornets Softball Wins Opening Game

MANKATO, MN-- May 10, 2007-- The Hornet softball team won 8-2 over Central Missouri in their opening round game at the North Central Regional Tournament in Mankato, Minnesota. The Hornets got on the board early in the first inning when Jennifer Dace hit a bases loaded two run double to give the Hornets the early 2-0 lead. The Jennies battled back to tie the score in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the third the Hornets went ahead for good breaking out for six runs. Miranda Campbell battled off a 3-2 count fouling off five straight pitches before blooping a single into left field to drive in two runs. April Huddleston and Laura Pfautsch also drove in two runs apiece during the six run frame. In the circle Courtney Reed went all seven innings only allowing two hits and one earned run. With the wins the Hornets move into round two where they will face Southwest Minnesota State who earned a 6-3 victory over Minnesota Duluth in the early game. First pitch for the game will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11 in Mankato, Minn.
