DES MOINES, Iowa – Joe Moore started Kansas State’s weekend at the 98th Drake Relays with a top-five performance in the men’s 5,000-meter run on Thursday evening.
Moore clocked an NCAA Midwest regional qualifying time of 14:08.25 to finish fourth. The time by the senior from Green, Kan., was his first career regional qualifying time in the 5,000 and set a new personal-best. The time is the eighth-fastest in school history, surpassing Chris Perez in 1976 (14:09.4) and Alfredo Rosas from the 1984 Kansas Relays (14:16.3).
Moore is the first K-State male athlete to regionally qualify in a distance event this season and the ninth athlete in the 10th discipline.
Kansas State will continue action at Drake Stadium on Friday.
