INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA approved a ban on text messaging between coaches and recruits Thursday.
The NCAA's board of directors passed the measure 13-3 a week after it was approved by the management council. The ban will begin in August.
The football coaches had urged the board to delay a decision until next year so a more workable solution could be worked out.
While the board rejected the coaches' plea, Division I vice president David Berst said the board left open the possibility of taking another shot at passing a less prohibitive measure in the future.
