MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State volleyball concluded its spring slate with a 15-4 record, after finishing third in the Gold bracket of the Great Lakes Center Spring Invitational in Chicago last weekend.

“Our spring schedule was very beneficial for us,” said associate head coach Jeff Grove. “After last fall, we identified several specific areas where we needed to improve and we were able to make significant gains in those areas. We were also able to get some new players some valuable match experience that will pay off next fall."

One of those new players for the Wildcats was junior Natalya Korobkova, who finished the weekend with 39 kills and a .300 hitting percentage. Also pacing the attack was junior-to-be Megan Farr with a .500 hitting percentage and 28 kills.

All matches from the weekend in Chicago were best-of-3, with the third game played to 15 points. K-State opened action in pool play against Purdue and Mississippi State. The Wildcats fell to the Boilermakers in the opener, 25-20 and 25-23. K-State rebounded against the Bulldogs with wins of 25-20 and 25-16. After the conclusion of pool play, all three teams were tied with one win and one loss. K-State advanced to the Gold bracket based on a total points tiebreaker.

In the Gold bracket, Kansas State set down Dayton 25-17 and 25-21. The Wildcats were defeated in a three-game semifinal match with Michigan (25-20, 21-25, 16-14). K-State rebounded with a two-game win over Georgia Tech, 25-19 and 25-9, to earn third-place.

Kansas State will open its 2007 fall schedule at the Wichita State Invitational on Aug. 24-25. K-State will make its 2007 home debut in Ahearn Field House on Tuesday, Aug. 28 against Houston at 6 p.m.
