KU Signs New Radio/TV deal

LAWRENCE, Kan. and LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kansas Athletics will receive more than $65 million over the next 10 years as part of a new multi-media rights collaboration with Host Communications Inc. and ESPN Regional Television (ERT), Kansas Athletics Director Lew Perkins announced today.

The new agreement involves an extension of the current rights agreement through 2017 and the assignment of the current Kansas Athletics-ERT agreement to Host Communications Inc., which has developed a strategic alliance with ERT for the Kansas property.

"ESPN is recognized as a leader in college sports television, and Host is a pioneer in collegiate marketing, recognized as one of this country's top sports marketing agencies. Together, they give Kansas Athletics a great one-two punch that will result in high-quality programming, innovative game-day promotions, effective sponsorships and creative new opportunities for fans to enjoy the Jayhawks."

The new agreement replaces Kansas Athletics' current agreement with ERT, which was scheduled to expire in June 2012. Host will manage the property on a day-to-day basis. ERT will remain active in the property and will manage the television production and distribution.

Under the agreement, Host will sell, produce, and distribute radio broadcasts for Kansas Athletics. Host will also have the right to sell, produce and distribute coaches' shows, television broadcast of games, game-day programs, hospitality opportunities, venue signage, corporate sponsorship and Internet.
