November 18, 2009 -- Emporia State head coach Bob Fornelli has announced that he has signed Shawn Talkington to play for ESU during the 2011 baseball season.

Talkington, of Chase County High School, is a 6-0 pitcher from Strong City, Kan. He was named the All-Class 2A Player of the year during the 2009 season. He was named first team All-State as a pitcher during his junior and sophomore seasons after being named second team All-State during his freshman season. During his junior season for the Bulldogs he hit .643 with four home runs and 27 RBI. He had a 6-2 record on the mound striking out 124 and holding a 2.37 ERA.

The Hornets went 49-19 last season and finished as the National runners-up.
