The #6 Hornet softball team used a one hitter from Courtney Reed in game one and Morgan Viola was three for four with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap to take a pair of wins over Washburn on Thursday.
Reed moved her record to 18-3 as ESU won the matinee 2-0 for her ninth shutout of the season. All-American Megan Davison provided all the runs for the Hornets, singling and scoring in the second inning and adding her 49th career home run in the fourth. She was walked in the fifth and intentionally walked in the seventh inning.
In game two Davison gave ESU the lead with a two run triple in the third and scored on Viola's two run homer two batters later. The Hornets would take an 8-2 lead into the seventh inning before the Lady Blues put three runs on the board. Reed then came on in relief of Samantha Sheeley and retired the final two batters to pick up her first save of the year.
ESU is scheduled to be back in action this weekend at the Northwest Missouri Classic in Maryville, Mo.
