Ichabods Put A Scare Into UNLV In Vegas
The Washburn Ichabods led by seven points in the second half and by one at 53-52 with 4:44 to play in the game, but could not hold off the Division I UNLV Runnin' Rebels in a 62-52 loss in the Thomas and Mack Center in an exhibition loss.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Washburn Ichabods led by seven points in the second half and by one at 53-52 with 4:44 to play in the game, but could not hold off the Division I UNLV Runnin' Rebels in a 62-52 loss in the Thomas and Mack Center in an exhibition loss. Washburn will open the season on Nov. 16 when they will face Peru State at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena.
Washburn's final lead of the game came at the 4:44 mark on a 3-pointer by William McNeill from the corner regaining the lead from the Rebels. However that would be the last field goal of the game for the Ichabods as the Rebels finished the game on a 13-0 run as the Ichabods went 0 of 7 from the field.
After trailing 28-24 at the halftime break, the Ichabods opened the stanza on a 13-2 run to build their lead to seven at 37-30 on a pair of free throws by Dezahn Otis with 14:43 to play. The Ichabods held the lead until a 3-pointer by Kendall Wallace put UNLV up by three at 45-42. A fastbreak lay up by Bobby Chipman cut the lead to one and another lay up by Nate Wallace pushed Washburn back in front 46-45 with 8:04 to play.
Neither team would score over the next 2:30 until Oscar Bellifield's tip in put UNLV up 53-52 with 3:25 to go in the game and the Ichabods would get no closer the rest of the way.
The Ichabods had a balanced scoring attack with Wallace and Chipman leading Washburn with eight pionts each. Nate Daniels scored seven with De'Andre Washington, Otis and McNeill each scoring six points. McNeill added a team-high eight rebounds and Washington had seven, including four offensive boards.
Chase Sanback led UNLV with a game-high 15 points.
Washburn was 18 of 53 from the field for a 34 percent average while holding the Rebels to 35 percent shooting as they connected on 20 of 57 attempts, including a 4 of 23 mark from 3-point range. The Rebels outscored the Ichabods 18 to 11 from the free throw line and held a 46 to 40 advantage on the glass including 17 offensive rebounds leading to 16 second chance points.
UNLV recorded 25 points off turnovers compared to 22 for the Ichabods. Washburn had 24 turnovers compared while forcing 18 Rebel turnovers.
