Soy, Watkins And Beckwith Tabbed Student-Athletes Of The Week
Jake Soy (Northwest Missouri), Zach Watkins (Washburn) and Brad Beckwith (Missouri Western) have been named MIAA Football Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 31 as selected by a conference SID panel.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jake Soy (Northwest Missouri), Zach Watkins (Washburn) and Brad Beckwith (Missouri Western) have been named MIAA Football Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 31 as selected by a conference SID panel. Watkins wins his second defensive player of the week award of the season, while Soy and Beckwith are both first-time honorees in 2009.

MIAA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake Soy, WR, Northwest Missouri
Soy broke Northwest Missouri’s and the MIAA’s single-season record for receiving touchdowns with 19 (was 16). The sophomore from Durant, Iowa, tied his own single-game record by catching four touchdowns in one game for the second time this year. Soy leads the league in receptions, receiving yards and scoring and leads the nation in touchdown receptions.

MIAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Zach Watkins, LB, Washburn
Watkins recorded a game-high 10 tackles with while playing into Truman’s second drive of the second half, recording seven solo stops with two tackles for loss. The senior from Independence, Mo., became Washburn’s all-time leading tackler on the third play of the second half, recording his 460th career tackle. Watkins’ 10th tackle of the afternoon gave him 100 for his career, marking the first time in school history that an Ichabod has recorded four-straight 100-tackle seasons.

MIAA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brad Beckwith, PK, Missouri Western
Beckwith had the best day of his career kicking the ball on Saturday in Emporia, Kan. The junior from Cameron, Mo., hit a career-high three field goals in a game as he hit from 35, 41 and 18 yards. Beckwith kicked off six times for 393 yards, an average of 65.5 yards per kickoff, with one touchback. He also averaged 46.3 yards per punt with a long of 59 and two of his three punts landed inside the twenty-yard line. Beckwith also had one assisted tackle in the contest. He had 11 of the Griffons’ 29 points in the victory.
