(October 29, 2009) – Kansas City Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman received MLS Save of the Week honors for the final week of the 2009 MLS regular season for an outstanding save to deny D.C. United’s Ben Olsen. Hartman won two MLS Save of the Week awards on the season, taking home the honor in Week 11 and Week 32. Striker Josh Wolff was named MLS Player of the Week three times, and Kansas City players won MLS Save of the Week three times.
Hartman’s latest personal honor came through a fan vote at MLSnet.com for a save in last Saturday’s season-ending 2-2 tie with D.C. United. Hartman dove to stop a shot off the foot of Jaime Moreno, when Moreno’s attempt deflected off a defender and into the path of Olsen on the opposite side of goal. Hartman regained his footing quickly and dove across the face of goal, tipping Olsen’s volley attempt over the bar in the process. The save proved vital, as Kansas City equalized the game in second-half stoppage time to keep D.C. United out of the playoffs. See Hartman’s latest Goal-of-the-Week-winning save here.
