MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State athletics and the Wildcat football program will host the second annual Spring Game Fan Fest Weekend on April 20-21, department officials announced today.
A number of activities for fans of all ages are planned around the centerpiece of the weekend – the 2007 Spring Game on Saturday, April 21, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
In addition to the game, which will kick off at 6 p.m., K-State’s second annual Spring Game Fan Fest Weekend will once again include a carnival and midway, a children’s fun zone, live music, a state-level barbeque competition and a battle of the bands contest. In addition, a car show has been added to the lineup of this year’s festivities.
The weekend’s events get underway on Friday, April 20, with a pair of K-State spring traditions – the 23rd annual editions of the Powercat Golf Tournament and the Kansas State athletics department’s Powercat Auction. The golf tournament will tee off at 10 a.m. at Colbert Hills, with the auction taking place at Bramlage Coliseum beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Also on Friday, the Kansas State baseball team will host Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium.
Saturday’s full slate of festivities begins with KSU Wildcat BBQ Battle, in Cat Town at 7 a.m., with competition taking place in both the professional and tailgate categories. Check-in for the car show, which features judging in a number of categories, follows at 9 a.m.
The carnival and midway, which proved to be a smash hit during last year’s inaugural Fan Fest, opens at 11 a.m. in the West parking lot of Snyder Family Stadium. The county fair-style carnival features several rides and a number of game booths. Fans must hold a ticket to the Spring Game to gain entry to the carnival and midway. Once inside, all rides and games will cost just $1 each.
Car show judging along with food vendors and live music in Cat Town will also open at 11 a.m., as will Willie’s Fun Zone, which features games and activities for children in K-State’s indoor practice facility.
At 2 p.m., the K-State baseball team returns to the diamond at Tointon Family Stadium to battle Oklahoma and the battle of the bands competition begins in the East parking lot of Snyder Family Stadium.
Tickets for K-State spring football game, which last year drew nearly 32,000 fans, are priced at $5 for the general public and $2 for students and youths. A complimentary spring game ticket is also included with the purchase of a 2007 season ticket.
Following the game, players and coaches will cap the day-long celebration on the field with a one-hour autograph session for the fans.
For the second straight year, Kansas State’s Spring Game will feature two, non-interchangeable teams coached by the program’s coordinators. The contest will also run like an actual, full-speed game and will not include situational elements. Additionally, the K-State Pride of Wildcat Land marching band will also be split into two units, with one playing for the purple team and the other playing for the white.
