TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Senate approved a bill to give the state's Sports Hall of Fame enough money to keep its doors open for the next three years.
The bill passed on a 23-to-12 vote and went to the House.
The bill sets aside $500,000 for each of the next three years for the hall, which is located in Wichita. The total of $1.5 million would come from Kansas Lottery funds.
The hall was established in 1961, and it has received only about $400,000 from the state, and nothing last year.
It has been located in Topeka, Lawrence and Abilene, where it closed in 2002 because of financial problems. A donation from a hotel developer allowed it to open in a bigger building in Wichita in November 2005.
