Lady Blues Lose in Regional Final

Washburn fought back from a 13 point halftime deficit, but missed what could have been a game tying free throw to fall 71 to 70 to Texas A & M Commerce. It was Washburn's third straight trip to the Regional Final. This time, the club matched up against a team that had never played this deep into the tournament, but had actually never advanced to the NCAA D II post season tournament.
Trailing by three points with just a few seconds left, West Texas A & M elected to foul rather than to give up what might have been a potential three point tying shot. Jessica Mainz made the first free throw, and Washburn was able to secure the rebound with a miss. Amanda Holmes was fouled and was sent to the line with the Lady Blues down two. Holmes made the first but not the second as time ticked away on the Lady Blues season.
