MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) _ Despite a turnaround season under
first-year coach Bob Huggins, Kansas State was snubbed by the
N-C-double-A tournament selection committee.
The Wildcats are instead the second seed in the N-I-T's west
regional and will host Vermont (25-7) at 7 p-m Wednesday.
K-State (22-11) was the first Big 12 team to win at least 20
games overall and record double-digit conference wins, yet fail to
make the tournament field. That brought the ire of Big 12
commissioner Kevin Weiberg and even K-U coach Bill Self.
The selection committee bypassed Kansas State for the Big 12's
fifth-place team, Texas Tech. The Red Raiders likely got in based
on regular-season victories over Kansas and Texas A-and-M, despite
getting routed by the Wildcats on Friday.
K-State has not been to the N-C-A-A tournament since 1996.
