Hornets Fall to #11 Southeastern Oklahoma State in NCAA Tourney
March 10, 2007-Eleventh ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State used a 29-4 run midway through the second half to take control in a 79-66 win over Emporia State in the first round of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament in Warrensburg, Mo.
ESU led 31-26 in the first half after holding SEOSU to .320 shooting from the field in the opening frame. A Donta Watson three pointer put the Hornets up 34-28 with 18:23 left in the game and ESU still led 42-39 before the Savage Storm began their run. Southeastern led 68-46 at the 4:05 mark when Emporia State went on their own 16-4 run to cut the lead to ten with 1:28 left. The Savage Storm then hit seven of eight free throws to secure the win and advance to the second round of the regional.
The Hornets were outscored 24-7 from the free throw line and outshot .480 to .348 from the field on the day.
Andrew Davison had a career-high 18 points with four treys. Donta Watson added 17 points with five made triples and ended the year with an ESU record 114 three pointers this year. ESU ends the year 21-8, their second 20 win season and second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the four years.
