OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Mario Chalmers scored 16 points and as
Kansas held off a second-half charge from Kansas State to win
67-to-61 today and advance to the Big 12 championship game.
Julian Wright added 12 points, including a jumper with just over
a minute left that put the game out of reach.
Sherron Collins had 10 points and six assists for the top-seeded
Chalmers hit consecutive 3-pointers to give Kansas its first
double-digit lead of the game at 43-to-31 in the opening minutes of
the second half.
But the Wildcats stayed in it by preventing Kansas from
extending its dominance on the boards. The Wildcats had a 23-to-13
rebounding edge in the second half and ended up with only three
less than Kansas for the game.
Cartier Martin led the Wildcats with 17 points.
In tomorrow's championship game, the Jayhawks will face either
Number 15 Texas or Oklahoma State.
