Washburn's Ewald And Yeager Earn Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Award
Washburn golfers Matt Ewald and Dustin Yeager were named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team which was released today by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

NORMAN, Okla. – Washburn golfers Matt Ewald and Dustin Yeager were named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team which was released today by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The duo were the only two golfers out of the MIAA to be named to the team.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 78.0 in Division II and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Ewald finished in a tie for 14th at the NCAA National Championships and earned all-MIAA honors for the fourth time in his career. He recorded a career stroke average at Washburn of 73.1 playing 131 rounds taking 9,571 shots at Washburn. He finished in the top five in 25 career tournaments and had 43 top 20 finishes. Head-to-head against other individuals, Ewald was 3,199-532 at Washburn for a career winning percentage of .857. He received second team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors earlier this season.

Yeager finished his junior season with a 75.5 stroke average and has recorded a 76.3 average for his career at Washburn. He finished in the top 20 in seven events this past season for the Ichabods and qualified for the second round of the United States Open as one of three players of 45 to advance out of sectional qualifying at Wichita Country Club.
