NASCAR Driver Carl Edwards Visits His “Home Track”,
Reminisces about Last Year’s Sprint Cup Race at Kansas Speedway
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (July 8, 2009) – The last time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Carl Edwards visited Kansas Speedway, he was putting a bonzai-move on Jimmie Johnson to try and capture his first Sprint Cup Series victory at Kansas Speedway. Unfortunately, the move didn’t work as he had planned and Edwards spent the ensuing press conference explaining why he used the move.
Today, Edwards visited Kansas Speedway for the first time since the race and reminisced with local reporters about the move.
“The last time I was here, I put my car in the fence,” said Edwards, as he walked up to a group of reporters waiting to take a few laps around Kansas Speedway with Edwards in a Ford Mustang, provided by Bonner Springs Ford.
Before the rides, the Columbia, Missouri native conducted several “pre-race” interviews and expressed both his attraction to Kansas Speedway and why he considers it his home track.
“When I come here, I still feel like it’s home,” he said. “There are so many fans from Missouri and Central Missouri where I’m from that it really feels to me, on the Sprint Cup side, like it’s my home track.”
Edwards views his win in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in 2004 a highlight of his career, but is still seeking his first Sprint Cup victory at Kansas Speedway.
“It literally gives me chills just thinking about it. If I were to win the Cup race here, there’s no bigger win. No bigger win.”
Just as the rides were to begin, Edwards playfully joked with those preparing to ride shotgun.
“I just can’t believe they don’t have helmets for you guys,” he said. “You’re on the side closest to the wall, so I guess just keep your fingers crossed.”
Edwards and the rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visit Kansas Speedway on Oct. 4 for the Price Chopper 400 presented by Kraft Foods. For Kansas Speedway tickets, call 866.460.RACE or log onto www.kansasspeedway.com.
