December 3, 2008 -- Emporia State volleyball player Ting Liu was named first team AVCA All-American while Arica Shepard was a third team selection.

Earning first team honors was MIAA Player of the Year Ting Liu, who was also named to the regional tournament all-tournament team. She finished the year with 1,534 assists averaging 12.17 per set on the season. Monica Miesner of Washburn and Linda Inbigigie of Pittsburg State were also named to the first team.

On the third team for the Hornets was Arica Shepard, who also made the all-tournament squad. She finished the season with 473 kills averaging 3.75 per game.

The Hornets season came to an end in the regional championship game against Truman. On the season the Hornets won their first MIAA Championship and hosted their first NCAA South Central Regional.
