Six Jayhawks scored in double figures as the Kansas women's basketball team defeated Sacred Heart 106-64 Friday night in the season-opener at Allen Field House.

Junior Danielle McCray tied a career-high with 29 points on 12-16 (.750) shooting from the field to lead the Jayhawks in scoring. McCray matched the 29-point performance she had against Marquette last season (Dec. 6, 2007).

Kansas used a balanced attack to jump out to a commanding lead in the first half. After leading 23-18 with 11:50 remaining in the first half, the Jayhawks used a 26-0 run to take a 49-18 lead with 3:14 to play. They entered the locker room with a 53-25 halftime lead.

The second half was more of the same for KU. They stormed out of the locker room with a 16-4 run to take a 71-29 lead with 13:53 remaining. For the game, the Jayhawks shot a remarkable 59.7 percent (43-72) from the field and 41.2 percent (7-17) from beyond the arc.

The 106 points scored by KU were the highest single-game total in the Bonnie Henrickson era. It was the first time a Jayhawk team has eclipsed the century mark since 2000.

Sophomore forward Nicolette Smith left the game with 16:04 remaining in the second half after she took an elbow to the face. She did not return to the game.

The Jayhawks next face the Iowa Hawkeyes in a special weekday morning tip-off on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Game time is slated for 11 a.m. with a live broadcast by ESPN.
