The #11 ESU volleyball team swept to a 3-0 victory over Central Oklahoma to open the Lady Blues Falls Classic. The win moves the Hornets to 16-1 on the season matching the best start in school history of 16-1 in 2005. The Hornets hit .309 on the way to the 29-27, 25-17 and 25-19 regional win.
The Hornets opened the first set a little sluggish and trailed at one point 22-17 before employing a 8-3 run to tie the set at 25 apiece. The Hornets then surged for the 29-27 victory and did not look back.
Ting Liu had 21 assists in the first set on her way to 44 for the match and also had a double-double with 10 digs. All-American Arica Shepard led the squad in kills with 13 while hitting .321 with two service aces. Brittney Miller hit a career high .611 and had 11 kills as the only other Hornet in double figures. Amy Byfield finished with a match high 13 digs.
The Hornets will be back on the court today at 2 p.m. when they face #20 Midwestern State from Lee Arena in Topeka, Kan.
