First Ever Shrine Bowl Cross Country Run to Include State Champions
Riley County's Annie Martin Among those in the Field
The race will start outside Welch stadium, run on the streets of Emporia and finish on the Welch Stadium track.

The 1st annual Kansas Shrine Bowl 5K All-star run will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 7:30 a.m. in Emporia, Kansas. It will feature 60 senior All-star cross country runners with 15 runners on both the boys and girls teams for the East and West. The race will start outside Welch stadium, run on the streets of Emporia and finish on the Welch Stadium track.

The girl’s race features 5 individuals who won state titles in 2007.

For the East team:

1a- Sharon Zeller of Olpe

4a- Heather Garcia of Baldwin

5a- Michaela Reynolds of Emporia

For the West Team

2a- Aubry Frekerding of Plainville

3a- Annie Martin of Riley County

It will also feature four state runner-ups with three of those on the west team.

East runner-up:

Rebeka Stowe Olathe Northwest

West runner-ups

Cori Christensen- Medicine Lodge

Alli Harbour- Elkhart

Laura Nightengale- El Dorado

The boys race will feature three individual state champions from 2007 and all of them will be running for the West team.

State Champions:

2a Kaleb Humphries- Sterling

3a- Trace Kendrick- Scott City

5a- Bryce Volz- Bishop Carrol

The East team will not have a state champion but they do have a runner-up in Jacob Davies of Emporia. Josh Baden of Colby is a state runner-up for the West.

The open race will run at the same time so runners can run with the all-stars. Day of race registration is available.

Shrine Bowl events include;
5K run, featuring 60 all-star cross country runners; 1 mile fun run/walk; Shriners Hospitals for Children free Screening Clinic; Arts & Crafts Fair; Kids Fair; free Shrine Parade; High School football Combine; Poker Run; Fashion Show; Masonic all state high school marching band; all-star cheer clinic; and the 35th annual Shrine Bowl high school all-star football game.
