NEW YORK (TICKER) —Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, who leads the major leagues in home runs with 24, was one of five players confirmed Monday for next week’s Home Run Derby.
Also chosen to participate in the competition, which will take place June 14 at Yankee Stadium - the night before the All-Star Game - were Texas Rangers right fielder Josh Hamilton, Florida Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla, Houston Astros first baseman Lance Berkman and Cleveland Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore.
Uggla (23) is tied for second in the National League in home runs and Berkman (22) is tied for fourth. Sizemore tops the American League with 22 and Hamilton is tied for second with 19.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim right fielder Vladimir Guerrero, the defending Home Run Derby champion, has said he wants to compete again, but he has not been confirmed by Major League Baseball.
