Weis Announces Huldon Tharp Has Concluded His Football Career

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Charlie Weis announced Monday that senior linebacker Huldon Tharp has decided to forego his final season of eligibility and conclude his football playing career. Tharp, who redshirted due to an injury in 2010, has one season of eligibility remaining, but has decided against using it.

“Physically my body just can’t hold up anymore,” said Tharp, who has battled injuries throughout his Jayhawk career. “I love KU and have enjoyed my time being a part of the football program. Thanks to Coach Weis’ encouragement I am going to graduate this summer and head out into the real world.

“I want to thank Coach Weis and the entire KU football staff for all that they have done for me,” said Tharp. “They have treated me very well and I definitely see bright days ahead for this program.”

Tharp started nine games at linebacker in 2012, missing three games due to injuries. The Mulvane, Kan., native collected 55 tackles on the season, including 4.5 TFLs for a loss of 12 yards. His top season in a Jayhawk uniform came in 2009 as he made a big impact in his true freshman campaign. Tharp was named a Phil Steele Magazine Freshman All-America first-team selection and was an honorable mention choice by CollegeFootballNews.com. He was also a Freshman All-Big 12 choice by The Sporting News and Rivals.com after registering 59 tackles, including a season’s-best 13 tackles against Nebraska.
