National Club Baseball Association’s Mid-America Regional Tournament held at Lake Shawnee Save Email Print

Shawnee County Parks & Recreation and the Topeka and Shawnee County Sports Council welcomed the National Club Baseball Association to the newly renovated baseball field at the Lake Shawnee Baseball Complex. The National Club Baseball Association is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is made up of college age teams from across the county. The event brought in four (4) regional teams from Kansas and neighboring states. Club teams from the University of Kansas, University of Northern Iowa, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado competed for the Mid-America Regional Tournament Championship.

Sunday Championship Games:10:00 AM University of Northern Iowa vs. University of Colorado1:00 PM Winner of 10:00 AM game vs. Colorado State University (Mid-America Regional Championship)4:00 PM If Needed The economic impact to Topeka and Shawnee County was significant estimates exceed $13,000 for the two (2) day event. Peggy Lallis with the National Club Baseball says, “The National Club Baseball is becoming increasingly popular and expanding”. Brian Toby, Athletics Supervisor with Shawnee County Parks & Recreation stated that he “hoped this event demonstrated Shawnee County’s and the Sports Council’s commitment to hosting regional and national level events. Lake Shawnee would also like to host a fall tournament that may attract more teams from across the county.-30-
