EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softball season came to an end with a 4-2 loss to Minnesota State at the NCAA North Central Regional at Trusler Sports Park in Emporia. Washburn wraps the up the season in their second NCAA regional in the last three seasons with a 29-28 record.

The Mavericks scored all their runs in the first three innings as they put up solo runs in the first and third inning and a pair of runs in the second inning. A Lady Blue error in the third frame allowed the unearned run in the Mavericks to go up 4-0.

Washburn was held scoreless until the sixth inning when Candi Madill drove in two runs with a single up the middle scoring Maggie West, who was pinch-running for Dani White who doubled, and Brooke DeVader who reached via a walk.

In the seventh inning, Washburn put their leadoff batter on when Danielle Hodge was hit by a pitch. She was lifted for a pinch-runner in Ashley Shaffer who was retired on a fielder's choice by Jessica Batres. Batres was retired on another fielder's choice by Tish Williams and Mandy Tarbutton flied out to left to the end the game.

Kelly Swygert wrapped her senior season with an 18-12 reocrd allowing three earned runs while scattering six hits. Madill finished the game with two hits and picked up both RBI for the Lady Blues. Williams, DeVader, White and Batres recorded the other hits for the Lady Blues.

• Mandy Tarbutton finished her career with a school-record 220 games started and a school-record tying 220 games played … she shared the record with Brooke DeVader for games played … Tarbutton also owns the school record for at bats with 706 … DeVader's 225 career base hits rank third all-time at Washburn … DeVader finished her career as the all-time leader in home runs with 38 … DeVader's 141 RBI is second all-time at Washburn … DeVader's 123 runs scored is fifth all-time for a Lady Blue … Tarbutton's 203 career base hits is tied for fifth all-time at Washburn … DeVader finished her career with a .336 batting averaged, which is the eighth-best all-time at Washburn … Dani White set the school record for putouts in a season with 562 breaking a 20-year old record held by Latisha Yarnell … DeVader set the school's single-season assist record with 192 … Malarie Fellers owns the Washburn career assist record with 524, ahead of DeVader's 486 career assists which is second all-time … Washburn is now 0-6 all-time in NCAA postseason play.
