MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the second-consecutive season, Kansas State senior second baseman Brett Scott has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced.

Currently a graduate student in Business Administration, Scott received his undergraduate degree in Finance with a minor in Economics in May 2007, graduating with a 3.97 GPA. The Manhattan product sports a 4.0 GPA in graduate school. Last season, Scott became the first Wildcat baseball player to be named Academic All-District since Tim Doty in 2003.

Last Monday at the annual Mark A. Chapman Recognition Ceremony for K-State student-athletes, Scott was honored with the Scholastic Achievement Award recognizing a senior letterwinner with the highest cumulative grade point average in undergraduate work. He was also the recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award as the outstanding male student athlete for the 2007-08 academic year.

Scott is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, annually presented to a NCAA Division I student-athletes in eight sports. The award focuses on classroom, character, community and competition and honors the attributes of seniors who fulfill their entire athletic eligibility while pursing their degrees.

Scott, who is in the midst of his final season on the diamond, is hitting a team-best .315 overall, including a .373 average in 20 conference games. The senior has been on fire as of late as he 19-for-49 (.388) in his last 14 games, with six doubles, one triple and six RBI. He is also one of the nation’s leaders in fielding percentage at .995, committing just one error in 196 total chances.

In 2007, Scott was named a third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. The district honor now qualifies Scott for academic all-America consideration in upcoming voting by CoSIDA members. In order to be eligible for academic all-district and all-America honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale and participate in at least 50 percent of his team’s games. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible.

Scott and Kansas State return to action this weekend with a three-game series at Oklahoma beginning 6:35 p.m. Friday evening at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
