TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn Lady Blues softball coach Lisa Carey has announced the addition of three high school student athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Washburn beginning next school year.
“We’re excited about our early signees,” Carey said. “We will lose a very talented senior class following this season and we will need these players to come in and contribute right away.”
5-5 • UT • Topeka, Kan. • Seaman High School
Background: As a sophomore, she was a first-team All-Centennial League pick … finished among the city leaders in batting average and runs batted in … as a junior, she was an All-Centennial League first-team pick after helping the Vikings reach the 5A state tournament … ranked among the city leaders in batting average.
Personal: Born Aug. 30, 1990 … daughter of Chris Cushing and Jill McMillan … anticipated major is athletic training.
5-4 • OF • Kansas City, Mo. • Liberty High School
Background: Winner of the coach’s award and outstanding hitter as a freshman … as a sophomore, she won the coach’s award … as a senior, she was named all-conference and all-district in the outfield … a three-time honoree in Who’s Who in American High School Students.
Personal: Born June 26, 1989 … daughter of Jay and Lynn Martin … anticipated major is pre-med.
5-8 • Shortstop/Pitcher • Edmond, Okla. • Edmond Memorial High School
Background: Has been a four-year varsity starters … named to all-Edmond team at second base as a junior and an all-city honorable mention pick … as a senior, she was named all-state utility and an all-Edmond first team selection at shortstop … a scholar athlete selection …earned first team all-Mid-State Conference honors as a senior as well as all-region honors.
