December 30, 2007 Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer On if the 2007 season has meant more to him given the tragic events at Virginia Tech last spring… I don’t think anyone connected with Virginia Tech would tell you any different. I think you’re playing a little harder. You want to have a great season. You want it to be a rallying point for Hokies everywhere. We’ve had a couple disappointments but we’ve been able to win an ACC Championship and now winning the Orange Bowl is real important. On how his team is health-wise… Pretty good. We’ve got some hitting going on today. Hopefully we can get through that okay. But we’re in good shape. On if Aqib Talib returning punts for Kansas will be cause for concern… He returned some punts in their last game. Certainly he’s a talented guy and a dangerous guy back there. It definitely gets your attention. On how good Kansas is… I think they’re good. If you go through the Big 12 and lose one ball game, you’re good. You don’t have to apologize to anyone…Dealing in reality, this is a heck of a good football team. They are very, very well-coached, very talented and very efficient football team. Those are the teams that are hard to beat. On if there is extra incentive to win given that ACC teams are 1-8 in BCS games… I think those things go in cycles. I don’t think the ACC has to apologize to anyone. It’s a good, tough league. I think it will only continue to get better. It’s a super organization and I think over the long haul we’ll get our share of wins. On being able to sustain long-term success at Virginia Tech… Consistency is the key. That starts with the staff and I’ve been able to keep the foundation of my staff for most of those years. I think that helps. That gets you consistency in recruiting and now you’re going back to the same schools with the same people and building relationships there. Then your chances of getting the better players increases…People coming into our program know exactly what to expect. It’s not going to be one thing one day and something else the next. It’s going to be steady. I think that’s been the key for us.
