SAN ANTONIO - In another well-rounded game, the Ichabods started strong and finished strong as they defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 93-60 Monday night in the first day of the St. Mary's River City Classic.
Washburn will continue action in San Antonio with a 7:30 p.m. game Tuesday against the host Rattlers.
The Ichabods (7-1) shot 51 percent, besting the 50 percent mark for the second straight game and fourth time this year as they won for the seventh straight game. They were 36 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the free throw line.
The Ichabods had five players reach double figures with Angel Santiago coming off the bench to lead with 15. Brady Sisk, starting his first game, and Grant Hargett each had 12 while Mario Scott had 11 and Paul Byers had 10.
The Ichabods had 28 assists on 37 made baskets with James Williams leading with a season-high nine. Mario Scott tied his season high with seven and Santiago had four.
Santiago was 6 of 10 from the field and he and Hargett each made a team-high three 3s.
The Ichabods started with a 3-pointer from Williams in the first six seconds of the game. The Storm answered with their own three but then Byers hit a jumper on WU's next possession to give the Ichabods the lead for good.
Williams and Byers each had eighth points in the opening half with Byers getting his as he hit his first four shots of the game and went 4 of 5 in the half. The Ichabods shot 54 percent from the field in the opening half and were 39 percent from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 29-14 in the half while keeping the Storm to 27 percent shooting.
The 27-point halftime deficit was the closest SOSU got in the second half.
- Brady Sisk started for the first time this year. He was 5 of 7 for 12 points with a team-high eight rebounds.
- Santiago scored a season-high 15 points.He had a season-high six field goals with a season-high .600 shooting percentage.
- The Ichabods improved to 2-0 against Southeastern Oklahoma State as the two schools had met just once before in a win for WU in 2005-06.
- The Ichabods tied a season high with 58 rebounds and they won the rebound battle 53-28 for a season-high +25 margin.
