ESU Women Ranked #24 In Nation

December 13, 2007-The Emporia State women*s tennis team will start
the 2008 season as the #24 team in the nation according to the ITA Fall
Rankings. The Hornets are the top ranked of two MIAA schools in the
national top 40 and the only MIAA school in the top 25.

Individually the doubles team of Marcella Bayon and Natalie Villaflor
are ranked #23 in the nation and are the only MIAA doubles team to
appear in the national rankings. The pair went 5-0 to win the
Wilson/ITA North Central Regional Championship in September and lost to
three teams, all in the top 12 nationally, at the ITA Small College
Championships in October.

Both the Hornet men and women made it to the NCAA Tournament last
spring with the women advancing to the *Sweet 16* before falling to
eventual national champion BYU-Hawai*i.

This marks the fourth ESU team to be ranked in the Top 25 nationally so
far this academic year. That is one half of the sports that have had an
opportunity to be ranked at this time.
