SEMO Wins Should be Wiped Out

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) _ An NCAA committee determines that the
Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team should vacate all
of its wins during the four-year tenure of former coach B.J. Smith.

The Southeast Missourian newspaper in Cape Girardeau reports
today that the NCAA Committee on Infractions also decided that
Southeast should have its 2006 NCAA tournament appearance taken
away.

In response to a request by the newspaper for records related to
the investigation, the university yesterday released a letter sent
by Josephine Potuto, vice chair of the Committee on Infractions.
That letter outlines the penalties imposed and the factors
considered.

The university is appealing the ruling. Smith has asked for a
full hearing, which will take place no earlier than April.
