Missouri is Red, Kansas is Orange

Missouri is red, and Kansas is Orange.
It’s the subject for tonight’s “On the Mark”. Admit it. The first thought you had when you heard the Jayhawks were headed to South Florida was … what about Missouri? And.. and then you either shook your head, gasped, or laughed out loud.
What exactly does guilt, surprise, and humored sound like? I’d say like an orange being peeled. If you peel away the layers of the bowl selection process don’t expect to find logic. Yes, it would follow that since Oklahoma beat Missouri, which beat Kansas, the Tigers would get a more favorable bowl game. Since Missouri beat Illinois, then how do the Illini end up in the Rose Bowl? It’s because the most erroneous part of the bowl selection process is that is hasn’t reached a point where it can definitively tell teams what’s at stake win or lose.
And, I think it needs to. We do know that reality is harsh.
Missouri had first and goal on Oklahoma three times and didn’t score a touchdown. Cue the speech about how luck is when opportunity meets preparation, then remember that Hawaii is the only undefeated team left, and the Rainbow aren’t playing for a national title.
The Orange Bowl needs Kansas and Virginia Tech because fans of the two schools are going to pack the place.
All the Jayhawks need to do to silence the questions about their validity to be in it… is to win it. That’s “On the Mark”.
