November 23, 2007-All-American Michelle Stueve scored a game high 27 points to lead the #3 Emporia State Lady Hornets to an 80-60 victory over host Cameron in the CU Powerade Thanksgiving Classic. The senior scored 20 in the second half as the Lady Hornets outscored the Aggies 50-36 in the second half.
There were five ties and two lead changes in the first period before ESU used a 12-2 run to close the half with a 30-24 lead. Alli Volkens had five of her seven points during the run for ESU.
The Lady Hornets would never trail in the second half, however after Stueve had to sit down after picking up her third foul, the Aggies would pull with 44-42 with 15:06 left. When she returned with 12:45 left Stueve scored the first five points of a 9-0 Lady Hornet run to push the lead to double digits at 56-44 with 9:52 remaining. Cameron could not recover and never got within ten the rest of the night.
Stueve's 27 points led three Lady Hornets in double figures and eight Lady Hornets scored at least five points. Allie Renberg had a game high nine rebounds for ESU while Cassondra Boston dished five assists.
ESU will take on Central Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lawton, Okla.
NOTES: Stueve now has 1803 points in her career and is seven points away from moving into the top 10 of MIAA Scoring.
