Missouri Claims the Border, the Big-12 North title, and maybe a No. 1 ranking

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Unthinkable in September, Missouri is one victory away from playing for its first national championship.

Chase Daniel threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns and the third-ranked Tigers ruined No. 2 Kansas' unbeaten season Saturday night with a 36-28 victory in the biggest game either school ever played.

As Big 12 North champions, the surprising Tigers (11-1, 7-1 Big 12) will head to San Antonio and a date in the Big 12 championship game with No. 10 Oklahoma, the only team to beat them this season. A victory there will almost certainly propel Missouri into the national championship game on Jan. 7.

Todd Reesing's 5-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Henry with 2:03 drew the Jayhawks within six points and Missouri's Tony Temple was stopped on third down to give the Jayhawks one last slim chance.

Lorenzo Williams put the finishing touches on it for Mizzou, sacking Reesing in the end zone for a safety with 12 seconds left. The Kansas quarterback walked off dejected, a muddy divot stuck in his face mask.

The game between the bitter archrivals drew 80,537, the second-biggest crowd in the 35-year history of Arrowhead Stadium.

Final Missouri - 36 Kansas - 28
Temple takes the fball on first down for two yards and Daniel goes for three on second down. Temple runs for three on third down. A five yard delay of game penalty winds the clock down to :28 seconds. Missouri punts and buries Kansas at their nine.

Lorenzo Williams sacks Todd Reesing in the endzone for the safety that clinched the Border Showdown for Missouri, who will now be headed to San Antonio to face Oklahoma in the Big-12 Championship.

Trying to rally back, Reesing's first pass falls short. On second down, Fields grabs the ball for a 23 yard gain to the Missouri 40.

Reesing's first down pass again misses but he finds McAnderson for seven on second down. Reesing, trying to make something, happen scrambles, throws for Meier, but the pass gets broken up. On fourth down Reesing runs for seven and the first.

Reesing's first pass for the endzone misses. Meier pulls down a first down with an eleven yard reception.

After an incomplete pass toward Henry, Reesing hit McAnderson for 10. The next pass hits Henry in the endzone. Webb hits the PAT.

Saunders grabs the onside kick for Mizzou.

3:31 Missouri - 34 Kansas - 21
Taking the kickoff at the twenty, Missouri starts their drive at the 25. Chase Daniel is run out of bounds to the left side. Maclin slides into catch for 18 and the first down.

Daniel missed Rucker on a first down attempt. A holding penalty on Rucker drives Missouri back ten yards. Facing a blitz. Daniel dumps it off to Maclin for a couple yards, setting up third and long. Needing a critical stop, the Jayhawks just can't hold Daniel as he finds Alexander for 16 years and the first down.

Temple loses two on the first down. Daniel gets chased out of the pocket and finds Maclin for 14 and the first.

The Kansas defense breaks into the Mizzou back field and tackle Temple for a five yard loss. With mizzori on the Kansas 35, on second and fifteen, Daniel hits Saunders for six yards. On third down Daniel scrambles for five yards, but stays inbounds costing the Jayhawks precious seconds. On fourth down, Wolfert hit a 43 yard field goal.

8:28 Missouri - 31 Kansas - 21
A high kickoff is returned to the 43. Reesing gets the pass off Briscoe for five. On second down, running right, Reesing hits Briscoe for the first down.

Reesing passes off to McAnderson for five. An incomplete pass on second down sets up a 19 yard pass to Meier.

Briscoe catches the Ball for a seven yard gain. Then , Reesing lobs the ball up for Feilds and the quick touchdown. Webb added the extra point.

Maclin runs up to catch the short kick off, bobbles it and only makes it to the 31. The converging Jayhawk secondary break up a pass deep downfield to Maclin. Illegal prcedure pushes the Tigers back 5 yards. A screen pass to Maclin goes for 18 and the first down

On first down, Temple couldn't get past the line of scrimmage. Daniel finds Maclin for an eleven yard gain and the first down.

Holding on first down makes it first and twenty. Daniel gets the penatly back with a ten yard strike to Saunders. The Tigers get the first down with a fifteen yard pass to Rucker.

Temple is able to spin for five yards. The second down pass from Daniel is broken up and he throws away the ball on third down. Wolfert came in and, with a 43 yarder, added to streak of never missing a Big-12 field goal.

13:02 Missouri - 28 Kansas - 14
The Jayhawks field the ground ball kickoff and start their drive from the thirty-five. On first down Reesing misses Dexton Fields, but finds him on the play for a 23 yard pickup.

A short pass toward Henry on the left sideline one hops on the way. Trying to escape a collapsing pocket, Reeing gets hit from behind as he throws. On third down facing an all out blitz by the Tigers Reesing escapes the pocket and scrambles for seven, down to the Tiger thirty-five, but three short of the first.

KU goes for on fourth and three and a patient Reesing waits until he finds Henry for the first down.

A defensive pass interference on a throw intended for Fields puts Kansas on the twelve. A fifteen yard penalty against Kansas pushes them back to a first and twenty-six, immediately negated by a personal foul on the next play, making it first and ten again.

A flanking pass to Meier nets nothing. The second pass finds Briscoe for eight. Reesing finds Henry in the endzone, throws it a little high and Hehry can't hang on. And going for it on fourth down, Reesing bolts to the right side and dives just breaking the plane to pull the Jayhawks within 14. Webb knocks through the extra point.

1:19 Missouri - 28 Kansas - 7
Maclin takes the kickoff out past the thirty as Missouri looks to answer KU's first touchdown. Daniel rolls right and finds Rucker for nine. Temple moves the chain with a five yard gain to the 47.

Tony Temple then moves the Tigers into KU territoru with a four yard gain. A quick pass to Maclingains five yards. Jackson then grabs the first running right up the gut

Perry then grabs a five yard pass. On second down, A touchdown run by maclin gets called back on a holding penalty, moving the Tigers back ten yards. On the next play though, Alexander grabs a 17 yard pass from Daniel for the first down.

Temple gets caught in the backfield for a three yard loss. Daniel from the shotgun hits Saunders for ten yards. On third and three, Daniel again from the shotgun hits Saunders for the first down at the eleven.

A false start on first down pushes Mizzou back to the 16. Alexander coming across the middle grabs the pass at the two yard line. On second down, Jimmy Jackson loses a yard. Washington takes a swing pass and finds the hole to the endzone. Wolfert chips in the extra point.

7:21 Missouri - 21 Kansas -7
Another short kick off means that the Jayhawks mean they take over at the 33. McAnderson starts the drive running for a couple yards. On second down Reesing finds Briscoe on the right sideline for the first down.

McAnderson takes the ball right up the middle for six ysrds. Reesing from the shot gun rolls right and finds Fine for 8.

With a fresh set of downs, Reesing throws deep and hits a diving Briscoe at the five yard-line.

McAnderon gets little on the first and goal run. Reesing then takes an option right to the one before Brandon McAnderson runs left and battles his way in and puts the Jayhawks on the scoreboard. Webb hits the PAT.

10:36 Missouri - 21 Kansas - 0
Missouri sends the kickoff on the ground and sacrifice good field position at their own 48. McAnderson runs right for eight yards and then is stuffed for a loss on second down. Third down Ressing finds Fine on the right side for the first down and more. A fifteen yard facemask penalty takes the Jayhawks inside the 20.

Good coverage forces Reesing to throw the ball away. A short run by McAnderson sets up third and long. A pass behind and tipped by Henry is intercepted by Bridges.

Temple runs for five yards, then Washington gets the first down on an eight yard run. daniel finds Saunders for seven. Temple takes it to the 12 on an eight yard run.

The tight end Rucker takes a direct snap and powers straight ahead but can only make it a yard before being stuffed. Daniel finds Franklin for, who reaches for, but doesn't quite rea the endzone. Jimmy Jackson picks up the final yard for the touch and Wolfert hits the PAT

Halftime Missouri - 14 Kansas - 0
Taking over at the 27 after the missed FG, Daniel finds Maclin for five and then Daniel picks up the first himself, scrambling to pick up six.

First and ten at the 38, Daniel throws an incomplete pass, before being sacked by Sadiq Muhammed for an 8 yard loss. On third down Temple runs for nine, forcing a punt.

With seven seconds on the clock, Reesing takes a knee and the Jayhawks head into the the locker room trailing at the half for the first time all season.

2:46 Missouri - 14 Kansas - 0
A ten yard penalty forces Missouri to start their drive from the six yard-line. Running to the right, Temple only gaiins a couple. Daniel finds Coffman for six before hitting Rucker for 17 and the first down.

A twenty-yard catch by Saunders takes the Tigers to the Kansas 45. Temple runs for five and picks up one more on the next down. On third and four, a quick pass to Franklin only nets three, bring up fourth down.

Going for it, Daniel finds Rucker in the backfield, where he is swarmed for a two-yard loss, KU takes over on downs.

Trying to capitalize quickly, Reesing finds Fields deep for 31 yards to which fifteen more were added by a roughing the passer call, taking the Jayhawks all the waty to the Missouri 16.

Two incomplete passes and a sack for an eleven yard loss, sets up another field goal try.

This time from forty-fivew yards out Webb misses left.

6;26 Missouri - 14Kansas - 0
First down at their own 37 after Missouri pooches another kick-off, Reesing flips it out to the to the left, hitting Fields for nine yards.

Reesing then finds Briscoe for 18 yards, taking the Jayhawks into Tiger territory. McAnderson fights for a two-yards and Reesing finds Fields for four yards to the Missouri 30.

A ten-yard penalty puts the Jayhawks on the edge of the Missouri red-zone. McAnderson rushes for four, but two incomplete passes bring up fourth and long.

KU comes out of the drive empty-handed though when Scott Webb's thirty-three yard field goal try klanks off the right upright.

9:21 Missouri - 14 Kansas - 0
A two yard pass by Reesing to Brandon McAnderson ends the first-quarter.

Reesing goes long and finds Kerry Meier deep downfield for a 38-yard gain to the Mizzou 26. Going for the quick strike in the end zone, Reesing is picked off for the first time in 213 attempts.

Taking over at the two Missouri comes out running. First, Tony Temple runs for 17 and not to be outdown Jimmy Jackson one ups him to with 18 to the 37 yard-line.

Temple makes up for a false start call with a four-yard lrun to the left. Alexander the gets the Tigers near midfield with an eleven-yard reception.

Maclin runs for 8 and Daniel throws for 7, which the Jayhawks got back on the next play.

Davis makes a five yard catch bringing up third down and long. A crushing blow by stuckey almost brings up fourth-down until a defensive holding call gives the Tigers a new set of downs.

Alexander gets the Tigers to the ten with a twenty yard catch.

First and Goal. Temple is stuffed for a one-yard loss, then an incomplete pass brings up third down.After scrambling to the right and buying himself more and more time Daniel gets off the pass to Danario Alexander, who slips into the endzone. Wolfert hits the PAT.

0:24 - Missouri - 7 Kansas - 0
On the first play from the the 21 yard line after a Jayhawk punt Tony temple rushes for a quick 12 yards.

After a five yard loss, Chase Daniel throws to Denario Alexander for a twenty yard gain. First in the then on the ground, Tony Temple runs for 23 yards.

A four-yard run by Alexander was followed by a thirteen yard toss down to the Jahawk 4.

A three-yard loss, incomplete pass, finally a six-yard pass sets up fourth and one. A quick toss to the tight end Rucker puts the Tigers on the scoreboard first. Wolfert nets the PAT

5:57 - Missouri fakes a 39-yard field goal and instead throws to Franklin falls short. KU takes over on downs.

9:50 - A forty-three yard return allows Mizzou to turn around the field position.

10:00 - Jayhawk and Tiger defenses have controlled the game so far with both Kansas and Missouri punting after two quick 3 and outs.
