K-State Baseball Signs Three Pitchers

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head baseball coach Brad Hill announced Tuesday the signing of three right-handed pitchers in Kayvon Bahramzadeh, Dustin Hobbs and Evan Marshall to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the 2008-09 school year.

“We are very excited to announce the signing of these three pitchers,” Hill said. “All three of them have enjoyed a great deal of success over the last several years. Finding pitchers that grade out at a very high level in terms of command, pitch development, competitiveness and experience pitching against top competition was a big priority for us this fall considering the number of pitchers we are going to have to replace. These three fit that mold well. We are excited about them joining our program next fall.”

Bahramzadeh is a 6-2, 185-pounder from Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson, Ariz. As a junior in 2007, he went 7-2 on a squad that produced a 25-5 record. In 55 innings pitched, Bahramzadeh struck out 85 batters, an average of 1.5 per inning. For his efforts last season, Bahramzadeh was named to the 2007 Tucson Citizen’s First Team All-Southern Arizona Team.

“Kayvon comes to us from one of the top high school programs in Arizona where he has been a key member of their pitching staff since his freshman year,” remarked Hill. “He has very good stuff overall, including a plus breaking ball. He has a simple, low-maintenance delivery and hides the ball well. His command is as good as we saw in terms of the 2008 high school grad pitchers. He’s very polished now, but also has good projection with his size and athleticism. Everyone we talked to about him commented about his drive and determination, which has clearly served him well and also will lead to great things in his future. We look forward to having Kayvon in our program.”

Hobbs is a 6-2, 180-pounder who prepped at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, Nev. The righty registered an 8-3 record with a 2.12 ERA and struck out 78 batters in 65 innings. As a junior in 2007, Hobbs let his squad to a 23-9 record.

“Dustin is another pitcher in this class with present pitchability and also a high ceiling,” said Hill. “He has an easy delivery with good deception. His breaking ball has a chance to be a legitimate out pitch for him. When we saw him pitch, he really impressed us with his ability to elevate his performance in tight situations, dialing up his velocity and shortening up his breaking ball – things you can’t really teach. He works fast and attacks the strike zone. Dustin is a tough kid, a hard worker and a great teammate – all things we put a lot of stock in. We are really excited about him signing with us and look forward to him having a great career here.”

Marshall, the third pitcher announced today by Hill, is a 6-0, 200-pound righty from Homestead High School in Sunnyvale, Calif., the same hometown as current Wildcat pitcher Jason Linn. As a junior in 2007, Marshall earned a 10-3 record with an impressive 1.70 ERA while striking out 112 batters in 90 innings. For is efforts, Marshall was named the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League MVP.

“Jason Linn told me about Evan a year ago, so we put him on our list of pitchers to go see in the summer,” Hill commented. “We had the chance to evaluate him a couple times and he performed very well. He is a very polished high school pitcher with great stuff. I really liked how he maintained his stuff throughout the course of the game I saw him pitch in, and doing so without any drop off in velocity. He competes well and knows how to win. He has a good, hard breaking ball, as good as I saw all summer – and he commands it well. He has a sound delivery with some deception. We are extremely pleased that Evan picked K-State and expect great things from him.”

More signees for the 2008-09 year will be announced as soon as they become available.
