TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn University and the Lady Blues have been tabbed by the NCAA National Volleyball Committee to host the 2007 NCAA Women’s National Championship. Each of the eight regional winners will begin play in Lee Arena on Nov. 29 with the championship match taking place on Dec. 1.
The Lady Blues, winners of the South Central Region will take on Tampa, the South Region winners and defending national champions in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 29.
Dowling, the Northeast Region champion, will take on Pacific Region champion Western Washington.
On the other side of the bracket, Concordia-St. Paul, who won the North Central Regional, will take on California (Pa.), who won the Atlantic Region. The final quarterfinals match will put West Texas A&M, winners of the Southwest Region against the Great Lakes Region winner, Grand Valley State.
Match times will be announced on Tuesday. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $5 students.
2006 Championship Recap
In the 2006 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship, top-ranked Tampa rode the net play of Katelen Dixon and Danielle MacDonald to win its first volleyball crown with a four-game conquest of North Alabama. The duo combined for 31 kills and six solo blocks to propel the Spartans to a 30-25, 27-30, 30-21, 30-17 victory after finishing as the national runner-up in 1996 and 1999. Tampa finished the season 35-1.
