Ichabods get another big win in Hillyard Classic

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Ichabods put 12 players in the scorebook as they defeated Upper Iowa 76-44 Saturday in the second day of the Missouri Western Hillyard Tip-Off Classic. James Williams led the Ichabods (2-1) with 10 points as they wrapped up three straight games in three days to open the season.

Washburn will play its home opener Friday in the WIBW Radio/Capital Plaza Holiday Classic against Missouri Baptist at 8 p.m. in Lee Arena.

The Ichabods opened up on a 7-0 run but then gave all the points back as the Peacocks tied the score at 7-7. Andrew Meile then hit a 3-pointer and they held the lead the rest of the way.

Meile’s second 3 gave Washburn a 10-point lead at 24-14 and then an 11-0 run later made the score 35-16.

The Ichabods went into locker room up by 22 and then after giving up a bucket to start the second half they went on a 13-0 run to lead by 33 at 57-24.

Mario Scott and Brady Sisk each had nine points while Paul Byers and Darnell Kimble chipped in eight. Snyder led the Ichabods with nine rebounds.

The ’Bods shot 41 percent on the night while the Peacocks were 32 percent. WU won the rebound battle 45-29 and took advantage of 24 UIU turnovers while committing 14.
