Round two of the Players Cup featured warmer weather and lighter winds, which made for excellent scoring conditions and a totally new leader group for tomorrows final round. Four competitors shot 58 (-7) including Dave Feldberg who finds himself in a 3-way tie for the lead with Garret “Double G” Gurthie and Sweden’s Markus Kallstrom, who both carded 59 (-6). The three leaders are all knotted at -12 for the tournament with Geoff Bennett one stroke back at -11 rounding out the lead group after a hot round of 58 (-7) today. Ken Climo, Joe Mela, Steve Brinster and first round leader Nate Doss are also at -11 with Bennett and will look to make a move from the second group tomorrow. It is anybody’s tournament at this point with all eight players in the top two groups still in contention and capable of claiming the title. With the abundant amount of OB on the course, it looks like course management and controlled play will be the determining factor.
In the Women’s division, Des Reading once again played great golf with an even par 65 to extend her lead to nine strokes over Valarie Jenkins and eleven strokes over Elaine King. Des looks to be untouchable and in full control of the tournament with one round left.
The weather for Sunday’s final round is expected to be warm and sunny again which should make for lights out shooting. Stay tuned to PDGA.com tomorrow for live scoring of the top two Men’s groups.
