ATCHISON, Kan. - Benedictine College will honor long-time head football coach Larry Wilcox in a ceremony at half time of the Ravens men’s basketball game against Rockhurst University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on the campus of Benedictine College.
Saturday in a 20-13 win over Central Methodist University, Coach Wilcox became the fifth coach in the history of the NAIA to earn 200 career wins.
Coach Wilcox joins elite company as the fifth coach to accomplish this milestone in the NAIA.
He is currently the third active coach in the NAIA to reach 200 wins behind Dickinson State’s Hank Biesot and St. Francis’ Kevin Donley. Two other coaches, now retired, also earned 200 wins at the NAIA level - Frosty Westering at Pacific Lutheran University and Ted Kessinger at Bethany College in Lindsburg, Kan.
Of the five coaches in the 200-win club, only Biesot, Kessinger and Wilcox have earned all 200 wins at the same school.
A special announcement will also be made during the ceremony.
The athletics department is also recognizing the Ravens and Lady Ravens soccer programs during half time for their efforts during the 2007 season.
Both programs competed in the NAIA Region V title games and were defeated in shootouts.
