Lastra Receives Second Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas – A week after earning her first Defensive Player of the Week honors, Kansas State senior Angie Lastra secured her second from the Big 12 Conference office Monday. The accolade comes after a 29- and 36-dig effort during the week of Nov. 5th and marks the first time a Wildcat has received the weekly award two-consecutive weeks.

K-State’s libero matched her career-high performance of 36 digs when she put up the number against Baylor in K-State’s 3-2 win on Saturday. Lastra notched 36 against Minnesota in one of her first collegiate matches on Sept. 10, 2004, marking the most in a five-game match in school history. Overall, the performance sits as the second most in a single match on record at K-State.

Lastra put together 29 digs in Kansas State’s victory over Texas A&M on Wednesday, when the Wildcats won in five by scores of 30-19, 30-27, 30-32, 28-30, 15-10. For the week, she notched 65 digs to average 6.50 digs per game and lead the conference.

On the year, Lastra has now tallied 12 matches of 20 or more digs to tie for the most in a single season for KSU. She also sits with 491 season digs to sit at fourth most in a season and continues to increase her lead on the school all-time digs list with 1,948, ahead of second-place Kim Zschau by 370.

Lastra’s Defensive Player of the Week is her second this season and third weekly distinction of her career. A Wildcat has received the honor three times this season as Nataly Korobkova earned the offensive award September 4th. Three accolades ties for the most in a season for K-State as the 2001 and 2003 season also had a trio of awards.

Texas’ Ashley Engle took the Offensive Player of the Week honor after averaging 4.57 points, 3.57 kills and 2.00 digs on .512 hitting in seven games last week.

The 12th-ranked Kansas State squad will play a pair of home matches this week as it hosts rival Kansas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and will hold Senior Night against Colorado on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. first serve. For complete coverage of Wildcat volleyball, please visit www.kstatesports.com.
